Sean has dedicated his more than 25 – year career to helping healthcare facilities reduce the risk of noncompliance and achieve measurable financial results. An accomplished compliance and management professional, Sean has extensive knowledge of the inner workings of government agencies at both the federal and state level, including the Office of Inspector General, Department of Justice and The United States Attorney’s Office.
Sean serves as Chief Compliance Officer for numerous nationally recognized health care organizations; engaged in the development of customized Corporate Compliance Programs including: Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Policies, Corrective Action Plans, Investigations and maintaining their Culture of Compliance. Sean has been recognized time and again by clients for successfully protecting their organization from unwarranted penalties and ensuring they receive due process. He has protected thousands of physicians, medical practice groups, and hospitals from undue penalties. In his medical audit appeal defense work Sean and his team of auditing and compliance experts have a proven record of having claims dismissed that had been brought against large and small healthcare organizations targeted by federal (Medicare), state (Medicaid), and commercial insurance payors. Medical providers and facilities regularly turn to Sean in the event they receive notice of wrongdoing. Sean’s focus is to ensure that client compliance is absolute.
Sean represents the voice of healthcare providers, medical societies, and integrated health systems on key legislative issues with members of Congress and other government agencies, and governmental agencies such as the Office of Inspector General often rely on Sean for guidance on interpreting complex Medicare guidelines, regulations and statutes and on methodologies for structuring studies to be conducted.
A sought-after healthcare speaker, Sean has an engaging, no-nonsense style and has delivered keynote addresses for countless professional societies and healthcare organizations. In his educational sessions, Sean presents workable solutions to the latest issues surrounding healthcare compliance, medical auditing, and practice and revenue cycle management.
Sean served on the American Alliance of Orthopedic Executives (AAOE) Industry Relations Advisory Board. He is also a published author and a contributing author and his written voice has reached tens of thousands of readers. His contributions to print and online publications (JAMA, Medical Economics, Part B News, BC Advantage, The Coding Edge, and MGMA Connections) cover topics such as Medicare, Evaluation and Management Services, auditing standards, fraud and abuse, regulatory compliance, and medical practice management. Prior to joining DoctorsManagement, Sean held senior level positions with some of the industry’s largest and most respected organizations. He helped these organizations secure financial stability and growth by streamlining operations and compliance systems.
Sean attended Life College in Marietta, Georgia, and Capella University in Minneapolis, where he studied Business Administration with a concentration in Health Care Management and Legal Studies. Sean has earned and maintains numerous certifications including Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC), Certified Evaluation & Management Auditor (CEMA), Certified Medical Compliance Officer (CMCO), Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), and Certified Professional Coder-Payer (CPC-P). Sean is an active member in good standing with The American Health Lawyers Association, Health Care Compliance Association, The American Academy of Professional Coders and the National Society of Certified Healthcare Business Consultants.
